Our Wine Portfolio

Arterra Wines

Nestled on a beautifully wooded estate, Arterra wines promises a distinctive wine experience. Ancient techniques integrate with modern capacity to produce a superior quality, progressive clean wine, intended to be a truly authentic ‘Virginia Style’ wine. This is done with native yeast fermentations, neutral oak, and no additives. We grow the highest quality fruit, and express vivid flavors, rich texture, and robust character.

Ox-Eye Vineyards

Ox-Eye Vineyards is located in Augusta County, Virginia, outside the city of Staunton. It sits at an average elevation of 1830 ft. with slopes facing east-southeast.

The Kiers were drawn to the Shenandoah Valley for its relatively low rainfall, cool climate, and deep limestone soil. Of particular interest was the valley’s strong diurnal temperature shift. This stark shift between day and night temperatures helps the fruit ripen through late summer and fall, producing ripe fruit without the loss of acidity.

Ever since the first two acres were planted in 1999, the site has proven to be an excellent one. The limestone base provides vital nutrients for healthy vines and fruit, while deep soil allows the vines to thrive without irrigation, even through droughts. Constant breezes help control diseases and create good air drainage to combat frost. The Kiers family’s 23 acres of vines continue to produce premium wines held in high esteem by the wine drinking community.

Keswick Vineyards

A family owned and operated winery near Charlottesville, VA was founded in 2000 with their first vintage in 2002 winning the honor of “Best White Wine in America” at the Atlanta International Wine Summit. Since then, the Keswick Vineyards has won two Governor’s Cups as well as numerous Gold, Double Gold and Platinum awards across the country. Their family-friendly tasting room boasts an elevated food menu, miniature golf course, dog park, and live music on Saturdays.

Muse Vineyards

Muse Vineyards is located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. At Muse, science, passion and reverence for the tradition of classic wine making converge to produce award-winning wines.

In 2015, Muse’s 2009 Clio, a Bordeaux-style blend, was named Virginia’s top wine and awarded the coveted 2015 Virginia Governor’s Cup, besting over 400 entries from across the state.

At Muse Vineyards, we devote ourselves to time-honored farming and wine production techniques in homage to the domaine vineyards of France and Italy. Rarely larger than 35 acres and often family-owned and operated for centuries, these vineyards represent for us the ideal of artisanal, premium wine making.

Walsh Family Wine

Farming numerous distinctive sites throughout Northern Virginia, we strive to produce wines reflective of place. Most of our bottlings are vineyard-designate wines, and in time we hope to continually realize the uniqueness of these sites through thoughtful winegrowing, both in the vineyard and cellar. We farm 6 distinct vineyards in Northern Virginia. More information about these sites can be found here.

With the assistance of an outstanding vineyard crew, production team, and sales team, Walsh Family Wine has a goal of exploring the ‘sense of place’ that exists in our small wine region.

Gabriele Rausse Winery

In 1997, Rausse began his own vineyard, Gabriele Rausse Winery. Situated right under his house are the fermentation and storage rooms, where stainless steel vats and wood barrels run wall to wall.

The tasting room of Gabriele Rausse Winery, tucked against a densely treed hillside, is just up the road from Monticello, but has an entirely different feel. Made of wood and glass, the structure is humble in size for a winemaker of Rausse’s caliber. However, it welcomes its surroundings, and supports the idea that the grapes and wine are shaped by Central Virginia’s sun and soil.

King Family Vineyards

King Family Vineyards is a family-owned and operated winery. We’re known as one of the best wineries in Virginia. The gorgeous foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Crozet, Virginia are stunning. And, just 15 minutes from Charlottesville, there’s so much to do and explore.

We specialize in the production of premium wines that showcase the remarkable quality and terroir of the Monticello AVA. Beginning with carefully selected grapes, winemaker Matthieu Finot creates wines inspired by the old world, but uniquely expressive of Virginia wine. Our passion is the customer. Our craft is the wine.

Afton Mountain Vineyards

In 1978, vines were first planted at what we now call Afton Mountain Vineyards, making our farm one of the first vineyards in Virginia. In those days there were only six such farm wineries in the state. We are grateful that the original owners chose such a well-suited location for viticulture, allowing us to continue to produce top quality wines over 45 years later. Since 2009, we have doubled our plantings to include 24 acres of vines, planted with 11 different varieties of Vitis vinifera grapes: Albariño, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Tannat.

Situated on the eastern slope of our namesake Afton Mountain, our vines start each morning with a front row seat to the rising sun, maximizing each plant’s daily solar exposure and ripening potential.

Below the surface, here in the heart of Virginia’s Piedmont, our vineyard is rooted in what is known as dyke-loam soil; a unique mix of heavy clay and silt that formed from eons of erosion of the Blue Ridge Mountains. At nearly 1,000 feet of elevation, we are generally able to avoid the risks of late spring frosts and we are sheltered from excessive rain by the surrounding mountain side. A prevailing breeze which flows through the nearby Rockfish and Humpback gaps acts as a natural dehumidifier, reducing some of the challenging effects of our area’s humid climate. Growing grapes is never easy, but these features of our farm help us to produce wines that we are proud of year after year.

Capstone Vineyards

Linden, VA is the premiere wine grape region on the East Coast. It is nestled in the rolling hills of the Shenandoah and offers the highest quality soils, climates and growing conditions for wine grapes. Recognizing the potential in Linden, Capstone Vineyards was planted in 2013. Our site faces due south, sits between 1000-1500’ elevation and is composed primarily of Meyersville and Catoctin series soils – predominantly weathered silica based rock and sandy loam deposits. Currently there are 12.5 acres under vine with another 10 acres being planted in the coming years. Currently planted are Merlot, Chardonnay, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Roussanne, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Given the variability in soil, grade and aspect the vineyard lends itself to both sparkling wines and concentrated reds. We take advantage of this unique site and offer several bold red blends, elegant still white wines and several sparkling wines made in both the charmat and champagne methods.

Veritas Vineyards

Their philosophy is to make wine with the classic, old-world principles of viticulture and vinification, at the same time using state of the art technology to capture varietal and regional character. Their name derives from the Roman historian Pliny the Elder’s observation “In Vino Veritas” – “In Wine there is Truth.” They believe that the truth in their wine comes straight from their vineyard as an expression of the land where they live and work.
